The report indicates that the Management of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has held a strategic meeting with the management of the Ho Teaching Hospital to strengthen collaboration, improve the implementation of the Fund’s programmes and expand access to specialised healthcare services for patients in the Volta Region.
It further notes that led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko, the engagement reviewed progress under the Fund’s operations, including lessons from its successful 50-patient pilot programme, which provided financial support to patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions.
Discussions also focused on improving the onboarding of patients onto the GMTFcare digital platform, streamlining claims processing and reimbursement systems, and addressing operational challenges to enhance service delivery as the programme expands nationwide.
A key aspect of the meeting centred on practical steps towards implementing President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to establish a Cardiology Centre in the Volta Region.
Officials explored possible implementation strategies, resource requirements and ways the proposed centre could complement existing specialist services at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Ms Opoku-Darko reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to building strong partnerships with healthcare institutions and expressed appreciation to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, for donating an additional three months of his salary to support the construction of the proposed cardiology centre.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr Hintermann Mbroh, assured the Trust Fund of the hospital’s full support in advancing its programmes and the proposed cardiology centre.
The meeting was attended by the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kpotosu, and the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, who commended President Mahama’s commitment to strengthening specialised healthcare.
The engagement forms part of the GMTF’s nationwide stakeholder consultations aimed at improving institutional collaboration and expanding access to quality specialist healthcare across Ghana.
