The report indicates that the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has presented medical supplies to the Health Directorate of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to support healthcare delivery in communities affected by the recent floods.
It further notes that the items were presented on Thursday as part of the Assembly’s efforts to strengthen post-flood response, improve public health surveillance, support community health outreach and protect residents from potential health risks associated with flooding.
The donation included 63 blood pressure monitors, 63 Snellen charts, 63 glucometers, 63 packs of glucometer strips, 63 portable weighing scales, 63 Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tapes, 63 regular tape measures, 20 hanging scales, 20 infantometers, five weighing stands and 37 home-visit bags.
Presenting the items, Mr Allotey stated the donation formed part of the Assembly’s measures to equip the Metro Health Directorate with the essential tools required to respond effectively to the needs of residents in the aftermath of the floods.
He noted that the recent flooding had created public health concerns in several communities, making it necessary for the Assembly to intensify sanitation, disinfection, health screening, disease prevention and community-level health interventions.
The Mayor stated the Assembly recognised the vital role played by health workers, particularly during emergencies, and would continue to provide them with the logistical support needed to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
He added that the post-flood response would extend beyond the removal of waste and debris to include comprehensive health interventions aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, including the elderly, women, children and residents living in flood-affected communities.
