Hopes then shifted to Ghana’s swimming star , Abeku Jackson, who was expected to boost the team’s fortunes. However, he also fell short, placing seventh in his heat of the men’s 50m backstroke and failing to progress.
In boxing, Nancy Bamfo suffered a unanimous points defeat to Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde in the women’s 54kg Round of 16. Clyde dominated the contest from start to finish, leaving the Ghanaian boxer unable to mount a successful challenge.
Adelaide Dede Djabatey also exited the competition after losing by unanimous decision to Fiji’s Jasmine Duanakamakama.
