The Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC)has received commendation from political historian Nana Obiri Boahen following the renaming of the party’s national headquarters after its founder, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
According to the former Deputy General secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NDC), this gesture worth emulating, which political parties can take a cue from.
Speaking to our reporters, the outspoken lawyer commended the current crop of the NDC leadership for seeing the need to honour its party's founder and the late former president.
"Even though, this renaming cannot happen in NPP but I salute Asiedu Nketiah, Fiifi Kwetey, Julius Debrah and I also great Joshua Alabi and everyone who allowed this edifice be named after Jerry Rawlings"
"Naming the headquarters after Rawlings is a good gesture. Whether you are NPP or NDC, you must acknowledge the contributions of founders. Rawlings was the founder of the NDC, and it is proper for the party to immortalize him in that way,” he stated.
The NDC’s Functional Executive Committee [FEC] approved the proposal, noting that naming party headquarters after founders is a global practice.
NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said, “Party headquarters across the world are named after their founders. Ghana cannot be an exception”.
