A leading member of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region, Akwasi Nti, has alleged that the National Disaster Management Organisation, (NADMO), Director for Adansi North District in the region cannot read or write.

Speaking in an interview, with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel,  the host  of Oyerepa FM’s morning show, Mr. Nti claimed the Director lacks basic literacy skills required for the job.

“He can’t read and write; he can’t even write: ‘I’m going to toilet’,” Mr. Nti alleged.

The appointment, therefore, raises questions about standards for public office and the capacity of some government appointees to deliver on their mandate.

He is calling on NADMO national headquarters and the Ministry of Interior to investigate the claim and ensure that persons appointed to sensitive positions meet the required qualifications.

“We need people who can read reports, write proposals and communicate properly. Disaster management is serious work. You cannot put someone there who cannot even write a simple sentence,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, the NADMO Director for Adansi North District and the District Chief Executive had not responded to the allegations.

Efforts to reach Mr. Nti for further documentation to support his claims were unsuccessful.
