The report indicates that president John Dramani Mahama has assured the Dagbon Traditional Council of the government’s full support as preparations begin for the final funeral rites of the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II.
It further notes that the President gave the assurance on Monday when a delegation from the Dagbon Traditional Council paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House to formally inform him of the passing of the revered traditional ruler.
Expressing his condolences, President Mahama stated the government would stand firmly with the chiefs and people of Dagbon throughout the mourning period and ensure that the late Ya-Na is accorded the appropriate state honours.
“We did everything humanly possible to preserve him, but Allah, the Master of the universe, knows best. I wish to assure you, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, that government is standing in full solidarity with you during this period of mourning, and we shall work closely with the Dagbon Traditional Council to ensure that the appropriate state courtesies and support are extended as preparations are made for the final funeral rites,” the President said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chief of Nanton, Naa Yab’ Nanton Naa Mahamudu V, expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the government for their support following the Ya-Na’s passing.
He particularly thanked the President for facilitating the late King’s medical evacuation and the subsequent repatriation of his mortal remains to Ghana.
