The Government of Ghana has fully settled a US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule, the Ministry of Finance has announced.

In a press release dated Monday, July 6, 2026, the Ministry said the payment was completed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as part of government’s commitment to prudent debt management and macroeconomic stability.

According to the Ministry, the payment consisted of US$525.2 million in principal repayments and US$174.8 million in interest payments. The latest settlement brings Ghana’s total payments to Eurobond holders since January 2025 to US$2.1 billion, in accordance with the terms of the Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.

The Ministry indicated that the payment was made through the government’s planned financing arrangements and did not place undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

“The settlement reduces Ghana’s outstanding Eurobond debt, strengthens investor confidence, and demonstrates the Government’s commitment to prudent debt management and macroeconomic stability,” the statement noted.

The government said the latest payment is another important step in restoring confidence in Ghana’s public finances, especially after years of debt restructuring and economic pressure. By meeting the obligation ahead of schedule, the Ministry believes Ghana is sending a positive signal to investors and development partners about its commitment to honouring external debt obligations.

The Ministry further assured the public that it will continue to implement sound public financial management practices to ensure the timely servicing of Ghana’s debt obligations.

It also expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for their patience, support and confidence as the government continues efforts to strengthen the economy and maintain fiscal discipline.

The early settlement is expected to be welcomed by market watchers as a sign of improving debt management, though attention will remain on how government sustains fiscal discipline, protects foreign reserves and balances debt repayment with spending on critical social and economic programmes.
