The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an expedited passport replacement programme for Ghanaians whose passports were lost or damaged during the recent floods that affected several parts of the country.
In a press release dated July 3, 2026, the Ministry expressed sympathy to individuals and families affected by the disaster, which resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of homes and other properties.
The intervention forms part of the government’s recovery efforts and is intended to help affected citizens quickly replace important travel documents destroyed or carried away by floodwaters.
Replacement Process to Be Fast-Tracked
According to the Ministry, passports confirmed to have been lost or damaged as a direct result of the floods will be processed through an expedited replacement arrangement.
The Ministry said it intends to replace the affected passports within one week after the required information has been received and verified.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods,” the statement said.
The initiative is expected to provide relief to affected citizens who may require their passports for travel, education, employment, business, medical treatment or other important purposes.
Dedicated Contact Number Announced
Individuals whose passports were affected have been asked to contact the Ministry through a dedicated telephone number between Friday, July 3 and Friday, July 17, 2026.
The official contact number provided in the press release is:
055 936 8563
Affected persons calling the number are required to provide the following details:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Gender, as recorded in the lost or damaged passport
- An active telephone number through which they can be contacted
The Ministry did not provide information in the statement about replacement fees, supporting documents or whether applicants would be required to visit a passport application centre. Affected persons should therefore obtain further instructions through the dedicated official number.
Ministry Expresses Solidarity with Victims
The Foreign Affairs Ministry acknowledged the devastating consequences of the floods and extended condolences to families who lost relatives.
It also expressed solidarity with residents whose homes, businesses and personal belongings were destroyed.
“The Foreign Ministry expresses strong solidarity with all our affected compatriots,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that passports are among the important personal documents that may have been destroyed, damaged or washed away during the flooding.
By introducing a special replacement process, authorities hope to prevent affected individuals from going through prolonged delays while they recover from the disaster.
One-Week Replacement Target
The Ministry indicated that all qualifying lost and damaged passports would be replaced within a week.
The timeline represents a significant acceleration compared with the usual procedures applicants may experience when replacing lost or damaged travel documents.
However, the replacement period is likely to depend on applicants providing accurate information and complying with any additional verification requirements communicated by the Ministry.
Affected citizens have therefore been encouraged to contact the dedicated number within the announced period and provide information that corresponds with the details in their previous passports.
Public Advised to Be Cautious
Because passport services involve sensitive personal information, affected persons should deal only with official representatives of the Ministry and avoid sharing their details with unauthorised individuals.
Applicants should also be cautious about people demanding unofficial payments or claiming that they can influence the replacement process.
The Ministry’s press release identifies 055 936 8563 as the dedicated contact number for the flood-related passport replacement exercise.
Any further instructions, including where to report, the documents to present and whether any approved charges apply, should be confirmed directly through official Ministry channels.
Supporting Government’s Flood Recovery Efforts
The passport replacement initiative forms part of the broader national response to the recent flooding.
Several government institutions, emergency services, local assemblies and humanitarian organisations have been supporting affected communities through rescue operations, relief distribution and recovery interventions.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said it remains committed to playing its role in supporting the government’s recovery programme and assisting citizens during the difficult period.
For affected passport holders, the expedited arrangement is expected to remove one significant administrative burden as they rebuild their lives and replace property and documents lost during the floods.
