It has emerged that among the twelve people who died as a result of recent flooding in parts of Accra are a mother and her son.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Officer, Alex King Nartey, confirmed as monitored by our reporters   on Joy FM a day after the flooding.

"Unfortunately, we lost about 12 people. That's the number that I can confirm," Mr. Nartey stated.

However, the PRO was quick to add that the figure might be wrong, as the evacuation team has not concluded its work.

"I won't be surprised if the number is more than what I'm mentioning. These are the figures I can verify from our team and our collaborating agencies.

Now that I'm being informed of other situations, we'll work with excavator teams and other agencies to establish the exact figure because death is not something to joke with. We don't want to put out numbers that have not been verified," he explained.
