Former Fomena Constituency Chairman, Akwasi Nti, who is also an Ashanti Regional NPP Vice Chairman hopeful, has called on the Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrews Asiamah Amoako, to contest the party’s 2028 parliamentary elections.
Speaking on Oyerepa FM's morning show hosted by Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, Mr. Nti described Mr. Asiamah as a development-oriented MP whose experience and grassroots connection are still needed in Fomena.
“Fomena needs continuity. Hon. Andrews Asiamah has done a lot for the constituency in terms of development, education, and health. The people still trust him. I am urging him to avail himself to run again in 2028,” he said.
Mr. Nti admitted that he was against Mr. Asiamah’s candidature during the 2016 primaries. That decision, he said, compelled Mr. Asiamah to contest as an Independent candidate.
“We had disagreements back in 2016. I was against his candidature, and that pushed him to go independent. But today, looking at what he has done for Fomena, I believe the constituency still needs him,” he stated.
Akwasi Nti noted that the NPP must work to reclaim the Fomena seat and strengthen its parliamentary numbers ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Fomena is an NPP seat by tradition. We lost our grip because of division. If we want to win it back and retain it, we need a unifier like Hon. Andrews Asiamah to lead the charge,” he added.
The former Fomena Chairman said the party in the Ashanti Region must prioritize unity and select candidates with proven track records to help the NPP break the 8.
“2028 is about strategy and experience. Hon. Asiamah understands Fomena. He understands Parliament. That is the kind of leader we need,” Mr. Nti stated.
Hon. Andrews Asiamah Amoako first won the Fomena seat as an Independent candidate in 2016 and retained it in 2020. He currently serves as Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
