Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he is prepared to pay "any price" to ensure accountability in government, stressing that his job is to speak "boldly, courageously, and at my own peril."
According to him, some Ghanaians mistakenly interpret his firm stance in Parliament as being abusive and destructive.
“There is a difference between being abusive and speaking out and calling leadership to order,” he stated.
The Effutu MP made the comments while engaging students of Ashesi University in a conversation moderated by Emeritus Professor Kwesi Yankah.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the work of the Minority is to put friendship aside and tell truth to power, even when it attracts criticism.
He further urged Ghanaian youth to speak out against weaknesses in leadership, adding that silence only makes leaders comfortable and relaxed in their roles.
“Especially now that social media makes it easy for people to express views. If you don’t add up, leaders will be in their comfort zone but that is not how it is supposed to be,” he said.
